The Garton Family Foundation and the Plymouth Arts Center proudly present: Opera For the Young’s production of Beauty and the Beast.
“Handsome is as handsome does….A princely (yet frightening!) beast finds redemption and transformation through the friendship of a brave young woman. Bubbling with memorable Mozart-like melodies, this re-telling of the beloved fairy tale is set in a fantastical South Asian context influenced by Bollywood style. Local elementary students join professional opera singers onstage as the opera chorus of exotic birds and enchanted (kid-sized) fruit. In true Opera for the Young fashion, this show will be animated…but definitely not animation!” Click Here to Print a copy of the Poster
On Friday, May 31st, Beauty and the Beast by OFTY with guest opera performer, Dr. Sherry Joseph of Plymouth, will be presented for Plymouth students at Horizon and Fairview. Thursday evening’s show, May 30th will be held at the Plymouth Arts Center at 7pm. Tickets are $10 for Adults:(18+) and $5 for Children. Please reserve early, as seating is limited to 175. The Thursday PAC show and two Friday school peformances are made possible through a grant the Plymouth Arts Center received from the Garton Family Foundation designated for this production.
Established in 1970, Opera for the Young (OFTY) has evolved from its founders’ “labor of love” to its present status as a fully professional opera company. OFTY is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit and is not affiliated with any other organization.
The mission of Opera for the Young is to ignite enthusiasm for opera.
The artistic vision in pursuit of that mission:
Opera for the Young brings live, professional opera to elementary school audiences with annual Fall and Spring tours. Students appear onstage in chorus and cameo roles, performing for their peers right alongside OFTY’s professional artists. All productions are fully staged, sung in English and adapted especially for kids.
