The “Big Cheese” drop idea was conceived by Dennis Schwartz of Schwartz Photography, downtown Plymouth, and implemented by the Plymouth Arts Center. Dennis suggested dropping a big cheese on New Year’s, as a tribute to Plymouth’s Cheese Capital history going back to the 1800’s and its thriving cheese industry that exists today. In honor of this premier special celebration, Plymouth Foam Products constructed and donated an eighty-pound Styrofoam cheese wedge, which will be lowered by Plymouth Fire Department during the countdown this New Year’s eve. The “Big Cheese” was painted and decorated by artist and Plymouth Arts Center Educational Chair, Cassy Tully, with technical support by Performing Arts Chairman, Greg Heberlein. Honored guests, Dennis and Judy Schwartz will light this year’s “Big Cheese.”
The premier of the “Big Cheese” countdown and drop will take place in the Plymouth Creamery Building parking lot, adjacent to the Arts Center at midnight, Monday, December 31st. The public is invited to the “Big Cheese!” countdown and drop, admission is free. Complimentary hot chocolate and cider will be served in the tent, from 11:30pm to 12:15pm.
